The Academy’s own Qona Venus Christie has brought home gold in her final competition for 2018 with a Gold Medal win at the Oceania Open in Perth.
Qona overcame her Australian opponent after a grueling final to take the Gold in the Junior Women’s Under 57kg Class.
This has crowned a highly successful year in which she won Gold at Wellington, Auckland International, North Island, National and OJU Champs prior to this final event. She also attained her Shodan grade and was awarded the title of New Zealand Judoka of the Year for 2018.
