The Academy has enjoyed considerable success, both domestic and international in recent weeks.
The Canterbury Open was held in Christchurch on 22-23 June.
The Academy’s sole representative here, Jordan Berry did exceptionally well, winning Bronze in the Senior Men’s under 90kg class and Gold in the Restricted Kyu Open, overcoming several opponents of a higher grade than himself.
The Secondary Schools Championships were held in Tauranga on 7 July.
Our representative at this event, Sam Power, won Bronze in the Open Weight Class, beating the opponent who had bested him in his Under 90kg category.
On the international front, Qona Christie has won Bronze Medals in the Junior Women’s Under 57kg Class at the Asian Junior Cup in Macau on 7 July and Hong Kong on 14 July. Qona is currently preparing for her next competition in Taipei.
An excellent effort from our members through the middle of 2019. Plenty more domestic competition for the rest of us back here in the near future.
